The Webbening - v0.2 update

Small update for today! This version’s main update is the change to ToB’s filetype. ToB now runs on HTML5, meaning it can be run from within a web browser rather than requiring a whole download and install!! I’m really excited about that because keeping this game as accessible as possible is one of my primary goals with this game.

The other main changes in this update are some fixes in my C# scripts. After getting Tower of Baybayin to a playable state for v0.1 to show at imagineNATIVE 2019, I stopped developing it in order to focus on some other things in my personal life (moving, job hunting, etc). It wasn’t until recently that I decided I should resume work on it. I uploaded it here as v0.1 to get it posted publicly, but it was honestly in a state that I really wasn’t proud of, haha.

So! Now that the game was online already as of four days ago, I now had great motivation to get moving and start making those updates I kept telling myself I would “eventually” get around to. Because of the gap in development time, I had to take some time refamiliarizing myself with how ToB worked, what the code did, stuff like that. The benefit to this development gap was that I was returning to my original project with fresh eyes essentially, plus I now had another year of programming experience that I could use to improve my existing code.

This is a looooongwinded way of me saying that in v0.2, there are also changes to my Unity scripts that make the code run a bit smoother and more efficiently, and I was able to refactor a few redundant script files into one.

Onto the next stuff on my update to-do list!

  • sound! music and sfx <- next priority

  • scoring system <- next priority

  • gameplay difficulty options

  • a proper character introduction/teaching system

  • big graphics overhaul!! most assets are just placeholders at the moment

  • a mobile app version

  • possibly an option to run the game in-browser? (DONE)

  • window scaling display issue fixes (DONE…as far as I know lol)
